Original Watercolor Painting by Stefan Kramar. The size of the painting is 18" L x 12" H. The painting is framed. The size of the framed painting is: 28" L x 22" H. Stefan was born May 24, 1921 in Racine, Wisconsin to Anthony and Marie Kramar. He was a graduate of the Wisconsin Academy of Art and served in WWII as a paratrooper with the famous 82nd Airborne Division. While on leave from the Army he married the love of his life, Mary on August 7, 1943 in Wisconsin. During his military service Stefan was awarded the Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Clusters, two “V’s” for valor, the Purple Heart, Presidential Citation, The Bronze Star for combat Infantry, Commendation by the French Government for action in Normandy, and Commendation by the Belgium Government for action in the Battle of the Bulge. They moved to Amarillo in January of 1947 after Stefan accepted a position from the Late James McCormick, owner of McCormick Advertising Company after James had seen some of Stefan’s’ illustrations. He was art director of McCormick’s until 1954 when he decided to become a free-lance artist. Stefan was an accomplished artist and was awarded over forty awards for his paintings throughout Texas and the Nation. Among his prestigious list of awards are Best of Show and three other Top Awards earned when he swept the 24th Annual Texas Watercolor Society Exhibition at San Antonio, Texas. He has won the top award in the Southwest Fiesta-Biennial Exhibition, Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe, New Mexico; the coveted Sun Carnival First Award at El Paso, Texas; the First Award 38th Annual Regional, Shreveport, Louisiana Mr. Kramar was awarded the Purple Sage Award from the Texas Watercolor Society for "his outstanding artistic achievements and for more than 50 years of excellence in painting in the water media". Devoted not only to his family, he was also devoted to his church, St. Thomas the Apostle where his magnificent interpretations of the fifteen Stations of the Cross are proudly displayed and also were published in 1986 in his book,” The Way of the Cross.” He also designed three intricate and stunning religious mosaics that are on display in the main sanctuary of St. Thomas. Many of his paintings are now hanging in the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon, Texas for all to admire and enjoy.
